Becket Historical Commission Meeting 1/25/12
Present: Aaron, Rob & Harry
Meeting called to order at 7:05pm
Minutes from the November meeting (the last meeting we had) were read and accepted with a minor change (Michelle Barker works as the Circuit Rider for Preservation MA, not MA Historical).
Treasurer’s Report: no report
Communications
- Received a holiday card from new Selectperson, Jeanne Pryor
- On Nov. 16, received 6 old Becket photos from Annette LaMountain of Chester, MA
- Received letter from MA Historical outlining bill before Senate that would limit MA Historical review of projects. Rob drafted and sent a letter to our congress people voicing the Historical Commission’s opposition to the bill
- Received a letter from Joan Arrowsmith, a librarian in the Fieldston School in the Bronx requesting information about Shaw Pond for a student. Rob is researching this and in contact with Ms. Arrowsmith
- Receive a request for information on the Alice House from a Julia Newman of Cannan, CT. Rob is looking for pictures and information to send her.
- Received a memo that the Historical Commission’s annual report is due by January 31st. We were also asked to submit a request for our budget for FY 2012 and informed that if no request was made, they would assume we would want level funding. Aaron moved to make no request so that level funding would be assumed, Rob seconded, the motion passed unanimously.
Received nomination form from MA Historical for outstanding work done in Historic Preservation. No action will be taken on this item.
Received an advertisement for a publication titled “Historic Places for Historic Parties”
Received a booklet from Terra Firma – Putting Historic Landscapes Preservation on Solid Ground
Annual Report
- Rob read a draft of the Historical Commission annual report. Harry made a motion to accept the report as read, Aaron seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Historical Commission Meeting Time
- A formal motion was made to move the regular meeting time for the Historical Commission from the 1st Wednesday of the month to the 4th Wednesday of the month. Rob seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Higley Apothecary
- Aaron continues to find ways to open a dialogue with the property owners and will work to find ways for the Historical Commission to help the property owners stabilize the structure
Informational Signs
- Rob continues to prep the framework for the directional signs. As soon as the weather allows, Aaron and Rob will install the Plexiglas and make repairs as needed.
- Aaron will send a thank you to Sabic for donation of the Plexiglas and will inquire about the invoice for shipping (which we never received)
New Business
- We were informed by the Town Administrator that we may have to find a new space to meet as our current meeting room may be needed for use by other town departments.
Aaron made a motion to adjourn, Rob seconded and the meeting adjourned at 7:40pm.
